Liverpool hoping to thrash out deal for Moreno

Premier League giants Liverpool are pushing ahead with their pursuit of Sevilla left back Alberto Moreno as they look to secure the signing of the Spanish full back as early as possible.

The Merseyside giants have allowed Iago Aspas join Sevilla on loan for the season and are hoping it will be enough to clinch the deal for Moreno.

The 22 year old left back remains the first choice target for manager Brendan Rodgers although the club has not been able to agree a fee for the Spanish international. The UEFA Europa League winners already rejected an offer of around £ 16 million from the Premier League runners up at the end of May and are holding out for a fee well over £ 20 million.

Moreno is one of the most sought after up and coming young left backs in the world and the solid financial footing of Sevilla means that they are in no pressure to sell one of their prized assets.

Sevilla also insist that the deal for Aspas will have no implications on the sale of Moreno and Liverpool will have to negotiate a deal for the player separately with them.

Ian Ayre, the club MD, admitted that they wouldn’t be held to ransom for the defender but he is hoping to pull the price down somewhat having met Sevilla officials earlier this week as he tries to thrash out a deal as early as possible.

Rodgers wants more competition at left back that was a problem position for the club last season with another Spaniard Jose Enrique prone to injuries and managing just twenty nine minutes of first team football since October.

Liverpool has cash to burn having sold Luis Suarez to Spanish giants Barcelona for a massive £ 75 million fee just this past week.
