Former Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock reckons that the club certainly belong in the Premier League and not in the Championship.
It has gone horribly wrong for the Midlands outfit over the last few years. After flirting with relegation for almost 3 seasons, the club finally ended up in the Championship at the end of last season. As a player who used to represent Villa for a number of years, Warnock is surprised by the decline of the club. However, he expects Villa to bounce back strongly even though they have struggled for form this season.
As one of the few teams to have won the European cup in England, Villa had the reputation of having the gone down into the second division of English football since the Premier league was founded in 1992. More than the club’s relegation, it was the disappointing start to the campaign in the Championship that proved to be the biggest disappointment since many were expecting Villa to challenge for the title straightaway. Carlisle United manager Keith Curle says that the club are expecting offers for goalkeeper Mark Gillespie in January.
Hence, they are preparing to offer a new contract for the 24-year-old, who has already been scouted by a number of clubs this season. While the manager says that he would like to complete negotiations and extend the player’s contract before the end of December, the finances at the club will have a major role to play.Curle is aware about the interest in Gillespie largely because those who have attended the games to watch Carlisle United players are goalkeeping coaches.
Gillespie is an attractive option for clubs across the English league considering that he will be available on a free transfer in the summer. Rather than lose him for nothing, Carlisle United are likely to accept a small compensation in the January transfer window. According to reports from investment banker Keith Harris, some Premier League stars that joined in the last campaign would not have been able to play if the vote to leave the European Union was in play.
The banker told Sky Sports News that players like Romelu Lukaku, Dimitri Payet, N’golo Kante and even Anthony Martial that make a huge impact in the past season might not have been able to join their clubs.
Harris helped oversee the sale of these top stars but he said it would have much more difficult if the Brexit was in place. Players within the European Union can move to play in Great Britain without work permit but with the planned exit, this will no longer be possible. Records say about 432 European players were registered to play in the Premier League but this would not have been possible with the Brexit situation. English Premier League surprise squad, Leicester City must wait at least one more day for its first English Premier League title.
This is as a result of the draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Had the team won the game, the premier league title would have been sealed off. Manchester United led first but the resilient Foxes fought hard to pick a very crucial point.
The team would be crowned champions if second-placed Tottenham Hotspur, which trails Leicester by eight points
, fail to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Spurs would have a tough job as the Bridge is a place where they have not won since 1990.
After the game, Leicester City player Wes Morgan said:
“It was very tough. Manchester United dominated possession and we had to dig in and be resilient.
“It’s a point and it’s a step in the right direction.
“It proved to be an important goal and to score at Old Trafford was a great feeling. It’s not ours until we get two hands on the trophy.”
Leicester finished the game with 10 men after Drinkwater was sent off for a second bookable offence five minutes from time meaning he would miss Leicester’s next game at home to Everton, when victory will secure the title even if Tottenham beats Chelsea. Former West Ham United striker Dean Ashton believes that the Premier League outfit should try and sign Paris St Germain superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Swede is one of the instantly recognisable names in world football and he recently revealed that an exit from the French capital may be on the cards. His contract runs out at the end of the campaign and that there has been no talk about a new deal. At 34 years of age, he still has only a couple of years left at the top of the game. Even though PSG may be interested in giving him a new contract, it is understood that Zlatan wants to experience a new culture and challenge.
West Ham will provide these aspects and their move to the Olympic stadium in the summer fits perfectly into the requirements of the 34-year-old. The massive stadium will be able to support 60,000 fans at the same time. This will bring West Ham in line with clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United in terms of stadium capacity. After having played only for big clubs throughout his career, Ibrahimovic will not want to play in front of a few fans. For this reason, Ashton believes that West Ham may have a chance to sign Ibrahimovic and that the club should not forgo this option at any cost. If there is any manager in the world of football that should be worried about losing his job is hands down, Manchester United’s Louis van Gaal. The Dutch coach finished the year of 2015 by sustaining successive underwhelming results and dropping points against teams which simply shouldn’t have happened at all.
Manchester United is consistently being valued as one of the most expensive clubs and squads in football. The Premier League club spends a substantial amount of cash on transfer windows and this is why the pressure is so huge on the managers as they have to collect consistent victories and win big pieces of silverware, especially taking into consideration all the money that is dished out in signing world class players.
Louis van Gaa and his players sustained a string of disappointing results in December of 2015 which included losing against Norwich City, Bournemouth and Stoke City while only being able to collect draws against Chelsea and West Ham United.
This possibly was the most disastrous way that Louis van Gaal could have ended 2015 as his team only managed to secure 2 points from the possible 15 during that specific period of time. The head chiefs of Manchester United have given the Dutch coach some time for him to recover from these depressing results and one of the options that Louis van Gaal will take in order to improve his squad and possibly avoid sustaining more defeats is by signing new players in the winter transfer window.
