Thomas Tuchel drops injury update on Neymar and EdinsonCavani

Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel has said that Neymar could return to action following the club’s Champions League clash against Manchester United next month. The Brazil international sustained a recurrence of the metatarsal injury in January and he has since been on the sidelines with no clear return date mentioned.

However, ahead of the Coupe de France quarter final against Dijon, Tuchel has confirmed that Neymar is going well with the rehabilitation in Brazil and the club would prefer having him in the camp ahead of the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against United. Still, the German dismissed the prospects of Neymar playing from the off and suggested that he could possibly return following the Red Devils game, he said: “He is always doing good when he is back home in Brazil. It is important that we get Neymar back before United for support. It is also important in terms of him returning stronger than ever — I hope that he will be able to train with us after the United match.”

Meanwhile, when asked about Cavani, Tuchel confirmed that the Uruguayan would be training with his teammates during the week after recovering from a thigh muscle problem. He added that the marksman could make a probable return for the weekend’s league game against Caen on the road, he told: “Edinson will be back in training with the team this week. He is regularly in touch with the doctor. He will not be ready for Dijon, but he is working hard — very professionally. I hope that he will be able to play in Caen.”

Paris Saint-Germain enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 triumph over United during the away leg of the Champions League round of 16 and the presence of Cavani should only enhance their prospects of reaching the quarter-final stage for the first time in three seasons.
